| Sir Henry Vaughans Company of Foot. In the Civil War of the 1640s, Wales was described as Nursery of The King's Infantry. Henry Vaughan, squire of Derwydd, near Llandeilo, was knighted in 1643 after he led a regiment raised from the Trained Bands (Militia) of the Western Counties of Wales to the king's headquarters Oxford.
